How Long Malaysian Meta Ads Actually Run (2026)
How long Facebook and Instagram ads keep running in Malaysia, measured across 276,858 ads from the AdPlay.ai archive, with the numbers by industry and format and the full dataset as a free CSV.
Updated August 2026 · AdPlay.ai Team
Most Malaysian Meta ads stop long before they get old. Of the 276,858 Malaysian Facebook and Instagram ads running as at their last check on 12 August 2026, 42.2% had been running 90 days or more, 11.4% had passed 180 days, and just 2.5% had passed a year. Longevity is the closest public proxy for an ad that keeps paying for itself, because nobody keeps funding a loser, and it varies sharply by industry: 49.5% of running electronics / tech ads have cleared 90 days against 39.3% in beauty / personal care.
There is no public number for what a Facebook ad costs in Malaysia that anyone can check. What there is, free and public in Meta's own Ad Library, is how long each ad has been running. That is a weaker signal than spend but a far more honest one: an advertiser who keeps an ad live for a year is telling you something no self-reported benchmark can. This page counts that across the Malaysian ads AdPlay.ai tracks, breaks it down by industry and format, and gives you the whole table as a CSV so you can check the working.
How this was measured, and what it cannot tell you
The population is every ad in the AdPlay.ai archive whose advertiser is classified as Malaysian: 921,906 ads, out of 1,277,372 tracked across all markets. Every one comes from Meta's free, public Ad Library. "Running" means the ad was still live the last time we checked that specific ad, and that is the single most important caveat on this page: refresh cadence is uneven, so an ad last checked in April is counted as it stood in April. Every age figure here is therefore a floor. The real numbers are somewhat higher, never lower. What this cannot tell you is what any of it cost. Meta does not publish spend, impressions or reach in the public Ad Library, so there are no CPM, CTR or ROAS figures here and you should be suspicious of any Malaysian source that quotes them without saying where they came from. Industry labels are model-generated, so treat a two-point gap between two industries as noise and a ten-point gap as real. One note if you have read our earlier study of Malaysian ad creative, which reported the same longevity thresholds against a different base. That study measured them as a share of every Malaysian ad tracked at the time; this page measures them as a share of the ads actually running, which is the more useful denominator if you are asking how long a live ad lasts. The archive has also grown substantially since, so the two sets of percentages are answers to different questions rather than a revision. Both denominators are in the CSV.
Why a long-running ad is worth paying attention to
Advertisers do not keep paying for ads that do not work. That makes run length the closest thing to a performance signal that is publicly verifiable: you cannot see the spend, but you can see that someone chose to keep spending. It is a blunt instrument, and it favours brands with the budget to sustain a campaign, so read it as evidence rather than proof. The distribution is the interesting part. 60.1% of running Malaysian ads have been live at least a month, 42.2% at least 90 days, and the curve falls off a cliff after that: only 2.5% reach a year and 1,355 ads in the entire Malaysian set have passed two. Whatever your creative refresh cycle is, the market's is shorter than you think.
Format is not the lever people assume it is
Carousel ads are the most likely to still be running past 90 days, at 52.5%, and dynamic the least, at 30.4%. That is a real gap, but it is far smaller than the gap between industries, which runs from 49.5% down to 39.3%. If you are choosing between shooting a video and making a static, the honest read of this data is that it matters less than what you are selling and who you are selling it to.
Reuse this data
Every figure on this page is in a single CSV, published under CC BY 4.0: you are free to use it, including commercially, with attribution to AdPlay.ai. It carries one row per figure with the denominator and the caveat attached to each, because a benchmark without its denominator is not a benchmark. If you are writing about Malaysian advertising and need a number you can actually source, take it from here rather than from the ringgit ranges that circulate unattributed between agency blogs.

Frequently asked questions
How long does the average Facebook ad run in Malaysia?
Most do not run long. Of the 276,858 Malaysian ads running as at their last check on 12 August 2026, 42.2% had been live 90 days or more and only 2.5% had passed a full year. A handful are remarkable outliers: 1,355 have been running more than two years.
Does a long-running ad mean it is profitable?
Not directly, and nobody can tell you that from public data. What it means is that the advertiser chose to keep paying for it, which is a real signal because ad budgets get cut fast when results do not come. Treat it as strong circumstantial evidence rather than proof, and remember it favours brands with the budget to sustain a campaign.
Which industries run their Malaysian ads the longest?
Electronics / Tech leads, with 49.5% of its running ads past the 90-day mark, and Beauty / Personal Care trails at 39.3%. Industry labels here are model-generated, so read the ordering as directional rather than exact.
Where does this data come from?
Meta's free and public Ad Library, collected and tracked by AdPlay.ai. The study covers 921,906 ads whose advertiser is classified as Malaysian, out of 1,277,372 tracked across all markets, measured on 12 August 2026.
Why does this page not show ad costs, CPM or CTR?
Because we cannot see them. Meta does not expose spend, impressions or reach in the public Ad Library, so any figure of that kind would be invented. That is also why the Malaysian ad-cost ranges circulating on agency sites are worth checking carefully: several are the same unsourced table republished.
Can I reuse these numbers in my own article or report?
Yes. The dataset is published under CC BY 4.0, so you can reuse it including commercially, as long as you credit AdPlay.ai. The CSV linked on this page carries every figure with its denominator and caveats.
How often is this updated?
It is a dated snapshot rather than a live feed, refreshed periodically. The measurement date is stated at the top of the page and in the CSV, so a figure you cite stays checkable against the version you cited.
